Previously, I wrote about the first time I used the masking tool when editing a photo.
If you’ve read that post, you know how much I struggled to make the edit work.
But what about my second attempt?
This is where I started:
I took this photo of jasmine flowers floating on water on a sunny summer morning. I’d say this is your typical #nofilter photo that shouldn’t be touched, but I wanted to practice masking again.
This time, I wanted to add colours to the flowers.
A nice day
I remember the day I edited this photo so well.
It was a chill Saturday. I’d had an intense workout in the morning and was enjoying that post-workout tiredness in the afternoon.
Someone I knew was getting married, and they were live-streaming the wedding, so I “attended” while altering the jasmine flowers in the comfort of my home ✌🏽.
You might be wondering: Did I struggle just as much this time with the masking technique?
Nope.
The mistakes from my first attempt had taught me a lot, and this time it went very smoothly.
I used the selection tool on one flower, added the mask, added a colour, and it worked instantly!
I then altered two more flowers and tweaked the overall look of the image a bit.
This is how it turned out:
Creation of mutant flowers: Success!
Having a very nice day: Double success!
Why was it a nice day?
Because everything aligned so well while I was creating art.
I was making something I liked while kind of attending a wedding while feeling that good kind of tiredness while having no other plans for the day.
All of it together made that day really nice.
Of course, the reality is: You can’t have days like that all the time. It’s just not possible.
But on some days, when things around me aren’t ideal, creating something still elevates that day.
You’ve probably already heard the sayings, “Enjoy the process” and “It’s the journey that matters, not the destination.”
Well, I’d like to add this underrated one:
