On one cozy February month, I went to Milan with my friends. We explored the city, ate good food (sometimes at tourist traps), and enjoyed each other’s company.
One day, we took a trip outside the city to this beautiful place:
The lake was both beautiful and calming, and there was even a swan swimming around.
This photo was edited on Instagram, and aside from adjusting lighting, contrast, and color saturation, I also added a purple hue. That hue would soon become my go-to touch of color when I felt like my photos needed an extra pop.
The start of a new era
As you can see, the photo was taken the year COVID hit globally. We had heard about the outbreak, but it hadn’t been labeled a pandemic yet.
Around two weeks after we got home, much of northern Italy — including Milan — went into quarantine. The streets we had just walked through, which had been teeming with life and energy, were now empty.
It was the start of a strange era, filled with pain and uncertainty, but also one where people slowed down and found time to grow.
It was during this time that I started using a more advanced photo editing software and fully committed to creating visual art and learning the techniques behind it.
I’ve written more about that in this post. 👇🏽 See you there!
